Meeting Topics for 2008

Book Publishers Northwest’s Board met on Dec. 13 to discuss topics for meetings next year. Dates and speakers will be announced later. Among the topics suggested by the Board and BPNW members were:

Cracking the Gift Market
Effective Marketing through E-mail
Getting Reviewed by PW
Making Book Videos
NW Regional Publishing
Selling through Social Networks
Understanding Google Ad Words
Used Book Websites Expand to Small Press Sales
Working with Freelance Editors/Proofreaders

The Board is also planning a survey of members and other subscribers to BPNW E-newsletter to better determine the needs of the membership and interest in various BPNW projects.

Corporate Book Events

Corporate book events, those talks and book signings held at corporations like Microsoft or Starbucks, were the subject of a recent San Francisco Chronicle article.

Among the experts quoted was Kim Ricketts, NW entrepreneur who spoke at BPNW's Sept. 8 Business of Books meeting.

Time for PNBA's New Title Program

It's time for the Winter/Spring edition of PNBA's Northwest New Title Preview. If you have a title you think will be a hit with Northwest booksellers, this PNBA program helps target your distribution of free review copies of forthcoming books, ARCs, or galleys directly to bookstore buyers in the Northwest.

For $120, PNBA will include your book in an online listing of new and regional titles with jacket art, a blurb, and a linked email address of the contact person at your company for bookseller requests. PNBA sends booksellers the listings, and they e-mail you directly to request the books.
